My mom, Gabi Schotter, was the most caring mother, loving wife, great friend, and a devoted athlete, and most of all, a beautiful person. She left this world far too early on January 17, 2021, at only 52 years of age. Gabi competed in many sports from soccer and judo as a child, to later falling in love with long-distance running and extreme endurance events. She participated in multiple ultra-marathons, often with a charitable purpose, like in the case of the famous 100K Maclehose Trail Runner in Hong Kong, which she completed numerous times. Gabi also participated in the 250 KM Gobi Desert leg of the Race Around the World. When she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in early 2019, she could not fully live her athletic life anymore. Still, she kept going on her stationary bike and shorter outdoor hikes, even during chemo.

As Gabi's son, I will pick up where she left off. I will hike 900 KM across Ontario along the Bruce Trail with a fundraising purpose at its heart. The goal is to bring awareness and funds for fighting Pancreatic Cancer. The challenge will start in late May and end on June 23, on Gabi's Birthday. All of the donations will go through my fund-raising page to support the Baker Centre for Pancreatic Cancer at the London Health Sciences Centre. This will help the centre reach its goal to develop new treatments and fund future research.

My goal is to raise as much as I can for this immensely important cause, so one day, there might be a cure. I’m asking for your support. Will you join me by making a tax-deductible donation? I will keep you posted with updates as the challenge approaches. Thank you!
