MEET WAYNE MACDONALD
My name is Wayne MacDonald. Life is full of adversity for all of us.
My biggest challenge began after a fall from a roof working on a rooftop unit on February 8, 1999. I was an HVAC journeyman. I sustained life-threatening head injuries and a T12 burst fracture of the spinal cord. I was now a paraplegic. Over the last 25 years, I hit my challenge head becoming an advanced open water handicapped scuba diver, glider pilot, competitive paddler, curler and hockey player. What I learned is I love to give back. A small example is raising money for spinal cord research MS research, and adaptive padding and volunteering for local charities such as Salvation Army and Foodbank London.
In July of 2023, I was faced with a new and frankly much scarier diagnosis. AML blood cancer. As with my previous challenges I wanted to be proactive in my journey.
As a competitive curler and representing Ontario twice at a national competition, I decided to approach the London Health Science Foundation to raise money for their blood cancer research program through a fun bonspiel.
Join me and other participants on Saturday, February 24 2024 for a charity bonspiel benefitting the LHSF at the Ilderton Curling Club. The cost per team is $160.00 / $45.00 per player.
There will be two 6 end games with playoffs. Dinner will be served afterwards. A 9 am start for the first draw Curlers and non-curlers are welcome. Curling is a fun very social activity.
